Geopalooza 4.0 brought the spirit of World GIS Day to life, demonstrating how geospatial technology connects people, places, and possibilities. Hosted at Nairobi’s Safari Park Hotel, the three-day symposium gathered over 200 in-person attendees from 34 countries and 455 virtual participants, celebrating GIS as a catalyst for collaboration and real-world impact.

Partnerships shaped the event, with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Kenya Space Agency combining global reach and local expertise to design sessions tailored to geographic and cultural contexts. Discussions spanned global health, agriculture, climate, and policy, emphasizing how GIS drives practical change.

Panels highlighted diverse perspectives. The Power of Open Source explored how tools from ESRI, ODK, and Planet transform GIS for development. Women in Geo celebrated gender inclusion and innovation, while Geospatial Technology at the Last Mile demonstrated how data bridges health and humanitarian gaps. Effective Geospatial Interventions through Policy and Coordination addressed funding and policy strategies for scaling geospatial initiatives.

Lightning Talks and informal networking sparked conversations, with attendees forming new partnerships and reviving old ones. The event’s geographic diversity stood out, featuring speakers from four continents and case studies ranging from AI applications in Nigeria to sewage monitoring in Dhaka.
